Not all poker rooms in New York State will reopen at the same time when the government gives the all-clear (or, somewhat clear). According to Governor Andrew Cuomo, every casino brings its own situation and challenges that need to be taken into account before reopening. This means that the state would look at each issue on a case-by-case basis.
Much like the rest of the country, poker rooms and casinos in New York State have been closed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. When the time is right, casinos will be given the green light, albeit with social distancing practices implemented.
But which casinos get to open first could depend on several factors. Casinos that have practices in place to sanitize their chips and cards, and those that have removed slot machines from the floor, would likely get the go-ahead sooner.
The layout of a casino floor could also factor into the equation. Each casino floor in New York State varies in design, and those that are capable of implementing a layout conducive to social distancing would have the upper hand.
It’s expected that some casinos could open as early as June, though it’s not yet clear how poker rooms would adapt to the changing environment. However, a proposal put out by Wynn Resorts out of Las Vegas offers some clues.

Under the proposal, supervisors would sanitize poker chairs after each player leaves, and sanitize the automatic shufflers on an hourly basis. Chips will also be sanitized regularly.

The Province of Ontario, in which Fallsview Casino is located, recently released a 3-phase plan to reopen the economy. No dates are set out in the plan.
